Rain gutters are an important part of any building. They divert the water from the foundation, keeping it from seeping into the building or causing the foundation to crumble. However, if you do not properly maintain them, they can cause damage to the roofing. When the gutters are pulling away from the home, are rusted or there are holes, or they are falling down completely, it is time to have a new set installed. Before the installation team comes out, there are a few things you need to do to make sure the job gets done correctly and in a timely manner.

Roofing

It is a good idea to have a roofer come and inspect the fascia and sides of the roof. If there is any damage to the wood underneath it will need to be replaced. It is much better to have this done before the gutter installer comes and tells you he or she cannot do the work until the roof is repaired. The roofer can also remove the old gutters safely so the installer can get the new ones up quicker.

Painting

If you notice that the area under the gutters needs to be repainted, or you have decided it is time to repaint the whole house it is best to have it done before the new gutters are installed. Once the roofer has removed the old set, get the painting done. Trying to paint around gutters is difficult and may result in missed areas. The installers are careful to avoid damaging the sides of the house so your new paint will not be damaged.

Prune Bushes and Shrubs

Any bushes or shrubs you have around the house should be pruned so they are not in the way of the installers. This will not only be a big help to the installers but will reduce the chance of any damage to the shrubbery.

Make Arrangements for Pets and Children

Anytime someone is going to be working on the outside of your home, especially the roof areas, you need to keep pets and children out of the area. Even though the workers are careful, things do fall. Pieces of the gutter or nails may fall and cause an injury. Even one nail in the right place can easily go through a foot. Unless you are sure that no one and no pets will be outside while the workers are there, make arrangements for them to go to a friend's house for the day.

Replacing your gutters is one of the responsibilities of owning a home. It is best if you have it done as soon as you notice there is a problem. Waiting will only increase the risk of damage to the rest of the building. For more information, contact companies like Davis FL Builders Supply.
